Over the past 4 years this portion of my website has allowed me to say thank you to those who have supported Foley Physical Therapy over the past year and to highlight to those new to me the importance of altruism in my business purpose. I continue to thrive because of the referrals from past customers and local physicians. That busy-ness means that FPT makes money, allowing me to "pay that forward". Additionally, in choosing to make these donations public I want to showcase Pittsburgh organizations working hard for effective and meaningful change here in our community and to promote them during the season of giving.
Foley Physical Therapy will proudly donate this year to the Center that C.A.R.E.S, a non-profit organization located in The Hill District, supporting since its inception over 2800 students and families. Children/Adults Recreational and Educational Service (CARES) has the mission of assisting pre-K children through college age adults in planning and achieving academic and life success. They serve students during the school year with mentoring and counseling; have camps during the summer months to offer structure and support and a youth basketball league which offers life lessons on teamwork and leadership. The Reverend Glenn Grayson of Wesley Center AME Zion church founded CARES in 2002 and the organization is a partner of many others serving youth in our region and beyond. In 2010 Revered Grayson and his wife Marsha’s son, Jeron was killed while home from Hampton University and visiting friends at California University of Pennsylvania during Homecoming. I think everyone living in Pittsburgh that October recalls this tragedy. Despite that unfathomable loss, Jeron’s big picture vision for CARES as a freshman has impacted the foundations’ trajectory ever since. More about Jeron's legacy can be found on the Center’s website and in this recent newspaper profile.
Donations to the Center that C.A.R.E.S can be made through this link.
2020 has been extraordinary and we are still enduring it as I write. This time last year I alluded to a big change coming in 2020. Due to financial challenges incurred during the pandemic I have been forced to rethink those plans for a bit.
I hope to bring that exciting news online in 2021. Stay tuned!
This year has also shown the deep disparities in health, finances, home and food needs/insecurities, as well as the fragilities, the privileges and the ignorance at times of our communities and the country as a whole, of each other. It has highlighted things I did not know or could not see as a result of my privilege of being able to be unaware of the depths of racism and the challenge of waking up each day black or brown in these United States. No matter the achievements, or titles or successes of the day prior, many of our neighbors have to reprove themselves every single, solitary, day. That is systemic racism and it is unacceptable.
Let's support each other more in every way possible starting now.
We have always been better, together.
Thank you ALL again for your support .
Happy Thanksgiving.
